KLTraffic, our free Nokia widget!
Tired of getting stuck in KL? How about giving KLTraffic, a Nokia mobile widget a shot?
So, what’s this widget about? Basically it takes traffic image feeds (provided by ITIS) of various roads in and about Kuala Lumpur. If you’re working in the heart of the city, this will prove to be rather handy!
Work on this widget started right after the Nokia OneConnectedWorld 2009 last week and took us only a couple of days to develop.

If you own a Nokia device, particularly the N97, N97 mini, 5800 & 5530 Xpressmusic or even the brand new Xpressmusic X6, do give this widget a try.
Some improvements are in the pipeline, particularly the ability for users to submit traffic reports. But yeah, we’ll get into that much later on. For the time being if this proves to be popular, we’ll work on it, otherwise we’ll just jump into a new project since Nokia WRT development is pretty rapid and easy to code.
A little tutorial on how to use this (it’s very straight forward)
- Click on any of the road names to load their respective traffic feed.
- Clicking on the double arrow icon will load an overlay over the traffic feed. This way, you’ll know which direction the traffic is heading.
- Hit the refresh button to get the latest image feed.
- The widget supports portrait view only.

it would be good if you could expand the app by including other major roads (like LDP/Damansara Heights/Jaya for example)
Rayson
yeah, we’re thinking about that

hi there,
Just downloaded to my phone. pretty good app, neat interface and easy to use. it would be good if it can extend to other major roads like PLUS, LDP and KESAS.

Hello guys, just a little update on we’ve been up to regarding this widget. We’re in contact with LLM now.
So what does this mean? Well, their traffic feed basically covers most parts of the country :) If everything goes well, and I mean, if it works out, we will be integrating their traffic feed into the widget.
Hoping for the best!

this is one great app i’m looking for..unfortunately, i’m running on symbian 3rd ed..

Hi… I was wondering why the newly added traffic cams are not working? For instance, on Federal Highway, there used to be only 3 cams with an additional 2 cams which are – KWSP Petaling Jaya and Mid Valley. Ever since i downloaded this app with these new additions, I have never been able to view these cams. Do you have an answer for this? Thanks.
Rayson
Hi Jon,
The updated cams were taken from http://www.jpbdbkl.gov.my/ but aren’t really reliable, as a matter of fact, it’s not even working anymore. At the time of development, the feeds were working though. We’re planning to remove the feed in the next update, sigh.
Jon
Thanks Rayson. This is an incredibly useful app by the way. Good job to you and your team. Although, like many said prior to this, traffic cams/updates in PJ would be highly desirable. Just a thought.
Thanks again!
