Nokia N97 Widget Competition Submissions

These widgets were all our submissions for Nokia's N97 widget competition back in early 2009.

Blogger Roll
A blogger RSS feeder, will scroll periodically whenever there’s a new blog post that you are following. Click on the settings icon to enter a list of rss feeds. Posts titles that are too long will be truncated. Clicking on the title will load the browser to the said blog post.
Today in History
This is a fun widget if you’re a history buff. The widget will display key moments in history everyday. The feeds will be taken from a site (History.com) and will rotate through all events in history on that date. Titles that are long will scroll while excerpts that are long will be truncated.
Reverse Lookup
Sometimes we get calls from unfamiliar numbers, to avoid paying for long distance charges, it’s always best to know the originating call. Use Reverse Lookup widget to find out where you missed calls/current call are from. If it’s a cell number, you’ll be given the cell tower location (if it’s possible).
Birthday Reminder
A simple birthday reminder widget. Will retrieve birthday from contact list and displays birthday that are 2 days in advance. Clicking on the name will call the birthday gal/guy :)
Glatitude
This widget is used in conjunction with Google’s new Latitude service. You’ll be able to detect friends that are nearby. You can set the radius location by clicking on the settings icons. If there’s more than 1 person in the area, you can scroll through them using the arrow key. There will be a smooth transition when you scroll through the names.
I Texted You
An SMS indicator! Latest unread SMS will be displayed on the widget with the contact’s photo (if it’s available). Clicking on the message will load up the full SMS message. Long message that could not fit into the widget will be truncated.
Tweetly
Updates your Tweeter message on-the-go! You can access the settings by clicking the logo.
Party Animal
This is essentially an RSS feed widget, with the exception that it’s designed for events/parties/gigs or other happenings. Simply grab a local RSS feed from a site to set it up … if you’re from Malaysia, Klue.com.my is a good start.
Alarm Reminder
This is an reminder widget, that would set off an alarm reminding you of tasks or appointments. You can dismiss the alarm by clicking on the X and set the time by clicking on Set.
QuickNav
A simple and highly usable navigator while you’re walking. Turn by turn navigations are made easier with the huge navigational arrow. To enter the place you’d like to go, click on the purple area. Purple area width will grow according to length of words, if exceed widget width, it will scroll.
Tweetly Status
This is a Tweeter feed widget. It will display you tweets, go through your tweets by click the arrows up and down. Click on the logo for settings (username, password).
Pingster
This is a widget for Ping.fm that allows you to update across multiple social networking site. Click on the ping.fm logo for your account settings and on the arrow to post.
Speedster
This widget estimates how fast you’re traveling by using the onboard GPS to calculate the distance over time you’ve traveled. The bars appearing from the centre will reach the end and turns Red if you’re moving above 200km/h. Click on the speed to swap between miles/km.
Stripe Date
A basic widget displaying the date and time … in what I hope, pleasing to the eye ;)
Quickwifi
This widget displays all detected wifi points. The signal strength is indicated by the background colour and length of the bar. You will be able to switch the phone’s wifi off and on and scroll through all wifi locations.
Quicktune
This is not meant to be a full fledge player, instead all it does is scroll through your playlist. If you’re on the move, you don’t want the complication of pressing tiny buttons, click either left and right to go through your songs. Need to select the right song to play? Click the song title on the widget to load the default media player.
Quicklock
Straight to the point, lock and unlock your N97, nothing fancy. Button changes to green for unlock.
FoneFav
Add 6 of your favourite contacts right at the homescreen. Click on your contact's photo to call them.
I Got Live
A simple MSN Messenger widget that allows you to change your status and share quick messages. Quick message will scroll if it’s too long. There’s a friends online and new message indicator. New message portion will only show, when you have new message (loads MSN app). Click username for settings & status indicator for away, busy, offline.
YooHoo
A simple widget for Yahoo Messenger. Click on logo for settings. Status message will scroll when it’s too long. New message portion (orange) will slide out when you receive new messages. Click to view them in available app … not sure if this is possible, lol.
Groovylizer
A visualizer that works with the media player. Different effects will be displayed based on the type of music that’s playing. Clicking on the tiny button will allow you to change the effects. Will work if you’re on speaker phone as well.
Where am I
Sometimes we get panicky when we’re lost, good thing there’s a widget to help you get back on track. Click on the life saver icon on the right to use the to GPS pinpoint your location. Clicking the map area will launch the Nokia Maps software for a more detailed look.
Fone Usage
Interesting phone usage information. Will display the phone usage and standby time since the last full charge and also your total call time. A simple idea on a simple widget, for the OCD in you.
Especially You
Everyone wants to be special, especially that single one most important person in your life. This widget lets you pick one contact (by clicking the name) and allows you to instantly call, SMS or Email that special someone. Clicking on the heart changes the colour to blue. Show someone how special they are now, with ‘Especially You’.
Fone Data
Logs the total data packet received on your data network. Will display which network you’re connected to.
Fone Status
A missed call, sms and new email indicator. Clicking on the icons will launch the respective default applications.
Yourtube
Have an account on YouTube? Wanna know if channels you subscribed to were updated with new content? Let YourTube help you with that! Click on the red area at the right to go through the latest content from your subscription. Click on YouTube logo for settings, and click on update message to load YouTube client.
Geovine
This widget uses the Nokia Vine service. Using your GPS, it takes your current location and searches for photos that were snapped from where you’re at. Pretty useful if you’re a tourist, or just plain adventurous. You can turn the service off and on. Clicking on the photo will load all the available photos to your browser.
I Won't Forget
A reminder widget that takes entry from your calendar. For usability sake, it will only display one entry. Click on the left arrow to move through your appointments. The widget will display the first entry of the day. Clicking the date will launch the calendar.
Auto Answer
Too busy to pick up a call? Let this widget do the job for you! Clicking on the control(bottom right), play & record(will toggle) allows you to record a short greeting your caller will hear. Activate the widget by switching it on. Clicking the miss calls(left), will let you listen through the available messages. A simple widget for the busy you!
MeVid
Document your life! That’s what MeVid is all about! This widget utilise both front and back camera. Click on text to enter your title, controls from left to right are, camera swap, upload (to youtube), play and record. Clicking the play button will load the default media player to review your recording. Controls are arranged for optimise usability.
Auto Reply
Don't you just hate it when someone calls while you’re busy? But you hate to be rude and not picking up the call. This widget will automatically send a predefine SMS to any calls that you missed. Clicking on the Miss Call (left) will activate the missed call list. On will toggle the Off button (red). Edit your message by clicking the green pencil.
Photo Board
A simple photo widget. A maximum of 4 photo will be displayed at one time, as anything more, it will be too small for the widget. The photos are fed from your gallery or any photo sharing sites like Flickr or Picassa. You can set the refresh rate. Photos will transition smoothly from right to left. Click on photo to view in gallery or browser.
Vnote
Vnote, short for voice note. Fairly simple and straight forward widget. Hit the record button to record your voice memo, ideas, etc. The pause button will activate while you’re recording, the record button will change into a stop button. Hitting the stop button will finalise the recording. The pause button is on the right because I hate it when your fingers are too big and end up hitting the stop button instead of pause.
Facebook
Displays your status feeds from Facebook.
Digg Widget
This is a Digg widget. This is not suppose to be a complicated widget, I intended it to be fairly straight forward displaying news only.
